Seems 17.h4 was a theoretical novelty

Alexis Alban
To me it looks like by move 17 black is already lost. Black spent so much resources on attacking white's queenside but white's queenside looks solid, whereas black's kingside looks weak. Maybe 13...Qc7 instead of Rc8. If 14.g5 then Nh5 intending to trade that white's queen bishop for a knight. A possible line is 13...Qc7 14.g5 Nh5 15.Bb5 f5 16.Rhf1 Rac8 17.h4 and I think black is in a much better position here than where he was in this game.

George Jempty
I too was of the opinion that 13...Qc7 was better than 13...Rc8 but 13...Qc7 isn't played nearly as much at top levels, and has performed dismally

Alexis Alban
How many games in your database have 13...Qc7? If it's less than 100 it is in my opinion meaningless especially if the games are from human tournaments or from blitz or rapid engine tournaments. The Chessbase Livebook has 13...Qc7 performing 94% for white but that is based only on 9 human games, quite meaningless in my opinion. Following my line this book has 16.h4 instead of Rhf1 and it scored a win for white, avg elo 2547. Again meaningless. In that game black who was rated 2466 played 16...g6. I recommend 17...Rf7 possibly doubling rooks on the f file with an eventual fxe

Alexis Alban
Sorry I meant to say I recommend 16...Rf7

Alexis Alban
After 16...Rf7 in my line I think black has a good chance of drawing. Already the Chessbase Livebook has no human games with this position, meaning all those 94% figures they were throwing a few moves back mean nothing.

George Jempty
I essentially agree
