I actually regretted venturing down this 5..Ba5 line as I hadn't really analysed the endgame in any detail. During the game, I felt that Black has a very unpleasant defensive task particularly after the strong 20.Kg2! and perhaps you could have tortured me by refraining from 21.c4 (tempting I admit, but I think White should only open up the position when there's a serious tangible advantage to be gained) and perhaps just keeping a grip on the position with something like 21.h3, slowly building up. It's certainly a defensible position for Black but it's hard to play and I may have had problems holding. Quite an interesting game to analyse in any case! George Jempty This game followed the following until Black's 17th: https://www.iccf.com/MakeAMove I always thought Black had vastly improved on other earlier reckless ideas such as 10...f6?! from Firman-Lputian 2005 James Adair Agreed, 10..f6 is definitely not the way to go. I think the whole position starting from around move 17 is the critical test of this Ba5 winawer but I'm not convinced it's an easy ride for Black.
