Life and death

At first sight (now I've lost some stones in several games with this trick :)) and without analysing I would say e3 with several threats, f2 and if White plays d2 or e3, then c3 and White can't capture the stone without Black capturing the 4 stones group.. Now when analysing, if c3 is replied to e3, f2 should work.. !? .. Is it right ?

Mikhail Ruzin    (2007-05-05 17:35:37)
Not so easy =)

Be3 - right. No other way. But ... Be3,Wd2,Bc3,We4,Be3,We4 and black is dead. Be3,Wc3,Bf2 Continue Wd3 tnen if Be4 - Wg3,Be1,Wc1 and e2 is false eye. if Bg3-We4,Be1,Wc1 and f3 is false eye.

Thibault de Vassal    (2007-05-05 21:32:54)
Oops

Sorry I meant d3, not d2... Anyway, after Be3, Wd3, Bc3, We4, Be3, We4, black seems dead, you're right :/ .. So Be3, Wd3, Be4, then Bc3 or Bf2. Finally, if Be3, Wc3 then same continuation should work. (I hope)

Mikhail Ruzin    (2007-05-06 08:24:42)
continue

So Be3, Wd3, Be4, then Bc3 or Bf2. Lets see - Be3, Wd3, Be4, Wc3, Bf2, We1 and no second eye. If Bg3 Wd1 and f3 is false eye, if Bf1, Wg3, Bd1, We2 and e2 is false eye. After Be3, Wc3 there are not many ways, only Bd3! And white can not move at e4.

Xavier Litzenburger    (2007-05-06 12:17:35)
easy

first move: Be4 --> Wd3 ; Be3 ; Wc3 ; Bf2 and black is alive --> We3 ; Bd3 ; Wc3 ; so d4 is a false eye, black is dead. => with Be4 black is unconditionaly dead. first move: Bd3 --> We3 ; Be4 ; Wc3 and D4 is a false eye, so black is dead. first move: Bc3 --> We3 ; Be4 ; Wd3 and black can't get a 2nd eye --> We3 : bd3 ; We4 and black has no eye first move: Be3 --> We4 ; Bd3 and E4 and F2 are miaï for black to live --> Wd3 ; Be4 ; Wc3 ; Bf2 and black is alive. --> Wc3 ; Bd3 ; Black is alive with the eyes d4 and e5 --> Wf2 ; Bd3 ; black is alive with the eyes d4 and e5 conclusion, Be3 and black is unconditionaly alive

Xavier Litzenburger    (2007-05-06 12:31:55)
for comprhension lol

[[first move: Be4]] 1)--> Wd3 ; Be3 ; Wc3 ; Bf2 and black is alive 2)--> We3 ; Bd3 ; Wc3 ; so d4 is a false eye, with Be4 black is unconditionnaly dead. [[first move: Bd3]] 1)--> We3 ; Be4 ; Wc3 and D4 is a false eye, so black is unconditionaly dead with d3. [[first move: Bc3]] 1)--> We3 ; Be4 ; Wd3 and black can't get a 2nd eye 2)--> We3 : bd3 ; We4 and black has no eye first move: Be3 1)--> We4 ; Bd3 and E4 and F2 are miaï for black to live 2)--> Wd3 ; Be4 ; Wc3 ; Bf2 and black is alive. 3)--> Wc3 ; Bd3 ; Black is alive with the eyes d4 and e5 4)--> Wf2 ; Bd3 ; black is alive with the eyes d4 and e5 [[[conclusion]]], Be3 and black is unconditionaly alive!

We needs flash player for Go

Too many variants. It's hard to reply in text mode =) We needs flash player for Go.

Mikhail Ruzin    (2007-05-06 18:40:19)
Not so easy =)

Be4 --> Wd3 ; Be3 ; Wc3 ; Bf2 and black is alive. Not alive! Continue ... We1 --> Bg3, Wd1 and f3 is false eye; --> Bf1, Wg3, Bd1, We2 and e2 is false eye. Black is dead.

Mikhail Ruzin    (2007-05-06 18:48:42)
Not so easy =)

--> Be3; Wd3 ; Be4 ; Wc3 ; Bf2 and black is alive. No! We1 and similarly to variants in previos post.

Mikhail Ruzin    (2007-05-06 18:51:57)
Be3 and black is unconditionaly alive!

Yes! First move is Be3. But then ...

Xavier Litzenburger    (2007-05-07 11:50:44)
yes

it's hard to be clear in text mode. Mikhail Ruzin, the variation you give it's the same as mine , just some of the move are switched, i voluntary forgot these because we really can't give all the variations in one post :s

New try

Be3 Wd3 Bc3 .. the end, isn't it a seki ? (so Black lives, if White takes e3, Black will make two eyes)

Mikhail Ruzin    (2007-05-07 19:04:53)
No, it's not seki

No, it's not seki! You say - "if White takes e3, Black will make two eyes" Yes, but how? If allow white to play one extra move - Black will be dead. You see weakness of the white position (f2), but how to use it?

Thibault de Vassal    (2007-05-08 02:17:00)
Of course not seki :)

It's not seki, right.. (big hallucination :)) .. I return to my first idea.. Be3 then Bf2.

1) Be3, Wc3, Bf2, Wd3, Bg3 now if We4 then Be1 (Bg2 does not work because of We1) Wg2 Bc1 (should be the main line !?)

2) Be3, Wd3, Bc3, Wf2 (We4, Be3) Be4

Mikhail Ruzin    (2007-05-08 13:11:39)
Still not complete solved

Be3, Wc3, Bf2, Wd3, Bg3 but We1! Bf1, We4, Bd1, We2, Bg2 and ko -fight (if Be1 instead Bg2 then Wg2 and black is dead) After Be3 and Wc3 correct reply Bd3! and white can not move at e4! Black alive. If Be3, Wd3, Bc3, We4, Be3 then We4! Bd4, Wc2 and again only ko-fight. You needs one stronger move in this variant! The gentle move !!!

Thibault de Vassal    (2007-05-08 15:34:34)
What about...

Be3, Wc3, Bd3 (then Be4) ?

I was to resign... I tried and tried again Bf2, but no way... That's a trap ;)

Mikhail Ruzin    (2007-05-09 20:23:56)
Main line

Well, this is main line Be3, Wd3, Bc3, We4, and now Bf2! White can not keep all (d3-e5,e2,f3) stones and black make two eyes.

Thibault de Vassal    (2007-05-10 03:14:58)
Beautiful

Now I see some of my last lines were wrong... Indeed, really nice. Thanks for an instructive problem ! :)
