Paulo Coelho
The brazilian lyricist and novelist Paulo Coelho (born August 24, 1947 in in Rio de Janeiro) published his first book in 1982 titled "Hell Archives", then "The Pilgrimage" and "The Alchemist" that became a brazilian best-seller after his next book: "Brida". Coelho now writes one novel about every two years. Thus he wrote "By the River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept", "The Fifth Mountain", "Veronika Decides to Die", "The Devil and Miss Prym", "Eleven Minutes", "Like the Flowing River", "The Valkyries and The Witch of Portobello".
Warner Bros. bought the rights to the film adaptation of The Alchemist in 2003 but never made the film because of scripts problems. Harvey Weinstein announced during the 2008 Cannes Film Festival that he had bought the rights to the film. While he will produce it with a budget of $60 million, Laurence Fishburne should direct it and play the eponymous character.

Il écrivit également "Maktub", "Sur le bord de la rivière Piedra je me suis assise et j'ai pleuré", "La Cinquième Montagne", "Manuel du guerrier de la lumière", "Conversations avec Paulo Coelho", "Véronika décide de mourir", "Onze minutes", "Le Zahir", "Comme le fleuve qui coule", "La Sorcière de Portobello", "La Solitude du vainqueur".
Warner Bros. a acheté en 2003 les droits pour l'adaptation de l'Alchimiste au cinéma mais le film ne vit jamais le jour à cause de problème autour du script. Harvey Weinstein a finalement annoncé pendant le festival de Cannes 2008 qu'il avait racheté les droits pour l'adaptation du roman. Il devrait produire le film avec un budget de 60 millions de dollars tandis que Laurence Fishburne aurait été désigné comme réalisateur et acteur pour le rôle titre.
