Joomla update, error 500

Hi, I'm trying to update Joomla on my server from an old version <2.0 to the last one, but now I have an error 500 on my homepage and I cannot remove it, does anyone have any idea on how to solve this?

Well, hard to say... but if you have a white page:

1) Verify .htaccess & url rewriting
2) Double check your config file
3) Check the chmod on files & folders
4) Is index.html empty?
5) Try without modules (modules should be updated as well)

The cause is often there.
