Backlinks (or incoming links, inbound links, inlinks, inward links) are incoming links to a website or web page. In the search engine optimization (SEO) world, the number of backlinks is one indication of the popularity or importance of that website or page. Google PageRank, that uses a formula based on backlinks, is still the best indication of the importance of a web page.

These questions are often linked. Building backlinks to your website is crucial in achieving and improving your search engine rankings. A backlink to your site is like a vote. As a guide, here are some ways & tips to increase the number of backlinks to your website :
* Create viral linkbait.
* Write a pillar (authority) article.

* Submit your site to free directories (only SEO friendly ones).
