It has special formatting to provide extra indexing functionality and information such as timestamps. The old chessbase format is A .pgn file is simply a text file that contains a header and a chess game in standard modern algebraic notation. Remove the formatting from a .cbh, save it as *.pgn and, viola you have a .pgn file.
